I have been lucky enough to secure full time employment continuously since my probation year, but am still on a fixed time contract despite being with the council for four years without a break in service. I have only been able to find out in the last week of term each year whether I still have a job the following year due to lack of information about staffing levels from the council. The lack of job security is stopping me from being able to make important life decisions (ie getting a mortgage.)
