Story 11

Age: 30

Teaching Experience: 5-8 years

Contract Type: Casual Supply (through calls, emails, teacherbooker etc)

I have worked in 3 councils in Scotland and have never had anything more than a Fixed Term Contract/ supply.

I have moved to a smaller council now to be with my Husband and I have had 2 temp contracts back to back, then like every year, applied for the council jobs in MJS, got an interview and then got rejected and told I’ll be on the supply list… I already was. In this session 24/25 I didn’t get anything until the 3rd week of the term, therefore breaking any chance (again!) for me to build up time for permanency.

I would love to have a bit of security, even just for a year again so I can save some money but it’s not happening. I have contacted my union about paying for my membership and due to having no job I won’t be able to pay for it- radio silence!

I am now at the point in my career, where I am looking to move away from the teaching profession, even though it was my dream job since I was 6 years old. It’s getting too much for my mental health, my financial health and overall wellbeing now.
