story 3

Teacher Information:

Name: Anonymous

Age: 26

Teaching Experience: 2-4 years

Contract Type: Casual Supply (through calls, emails, teacherbooker etc)

Their Story:

Completed a very successful probation year in 22/23, amazing feedback from staff, pupils and parents.

Was not successful in gaining a job, straight onto the supply list within one council area (I am surrounded by 4 council areas yet all were internal applicants only so could only apply for the council area I worked in).

Was kept steady with work from Aug-Dec then managed to gain a fixed term contract for 6 months from Dec-Jun (23/24 year) covering a maternity post in my probation school (I only got the job as I had worked there previously and the school knew me). That came to an end in Summer 2024 and I was left with no job yet again.

Managed to get onto another council’s supply list and have worked only 6 days in Term 1 in that council area(Aug-Oct), have had not a single days work in Term 1 in the council area I completed my probation year in.

Yet, I have noticed the council area have advertised for the supply AGAIN despite there being no work. Unfortunately it is the same in most schools (not all may I add) that jobs advertised are going to people who work in the school/who are known by the school and this is hard in securing a job if you are not known to the school.
