Story 41

Age: 44

Teaching Experience: 12+ years

Contract Type: Unemployed due to no jobs

After relocating to East Renfrewshire in November 2023, I have been waiting for the supply register to open in both Glasgow City and East Renfrewshire, but it remains closed.

Despite actively seeking employment, there are no available teaching positions. I’ve applied for two jobs, only to be informed that over 750 applicants were competing for each, which has made securing a role extremely difficult.

After 14 years as a teacher, I am now unemployed and have had to claim Job Seeker’s Allowance. There needs to be a change, otherwise, I’m not sure what to do next. This situation is really affecting my mental health.
