Story 48

Age: 28

Teaching Experience: 5-8 years

Contract Type: Unemployed due to no jobs

I graduated in 2019 and has my probation year cut short due to Covid the following year.

Due to this the lack of jobs was decreased hugely meaning I then had to go onto supply. I went a month without work to which I then was lucky enough to secure a 2 week Covid Cover. Luckily, the school extended me for 3 months as In house relief cover.

I then moved to Dubai due to lack of jobs and was there for 4 years. Upon moving home I have been unable to get onto supply as there are no positions available in Edinburgh council.

I have been rejected from every job application I’ve submitted with no reason. I have been unable to secure a teaching job or even get into supply so I have now had to leave teaching.

My fear is that now that I have left it’s going to be incredibly harder for me to get back into it. I’m still within education and now working as an early years officer but this is only fixed term and I will be in the same position come June next year.

Now facing the reality that I may have to leave Scotland again and it’s sad to see that a problem which caused me to leave Scotland 4 years  ago is now potentially going to cause me to leave again
