Story 57

Age: 29

Teaching Experience: 5-8 years

Contract Type: Casual Supply (through calls, emails, teacherbooker etc)

I have been teaching 7 years and had a permanent full time post in one council for 5 years until I made the decision to move for personal reasons. I’ve moved to a council that doesn’t offer permanent contracts until you’ve completed 2 years of fixed term or supply work and I am now on casual supply.

Of the fixed term contracts I have managed to work, their use has been against the LNCT guidance and the union say I would have a right to raise a grievance however recommend against it as it would risk a ‘black mark’ against my name within the council. How can things ever improve if our own unions advise against acting on things we have a right to act on?
