Story 65

Age: 26

Teaching Experience: 0-1 years

Contract Type: Casual Supply (through calls, emails, teacherbooker etc)

I completed my probation year last year. In the council where I was placed, they have a system where you get awarded a number at the end based on your performance throughout the year, 1 being the best and highly recommended for employment, and 4 being a failed probation. I achieved a 2, which meant I was recommended for employment. However, I was not able to find a job and instead got put on the supply list.

I have done 2 days work since the start of the school year. I don’t have any other jobs as I can’t find any that will give me the freedom to accept supply work at short notice.

I am now at the stage where I need to strongly consider giving up supply to get a full time job outside of teaching. But I’m scared as I feel like this will make it so much harder for me to ever get a job in the future.

Sadly, it feels like all my hard work over my training and probation have gone to waste, and I’m honestly not hopeful in the slightest.
