Story 80

Age: 51

Teaching Experience: 12+ years

Contract Type: Casual Supply (through calls, emails, teacherbooker etc)

Graduated in 2007 and lucky enough to secure a temp part time position in a secondary school in my subject, however outwith my LA. Following session I secured a permanent post in same LA and was full time for 11yrs. Commuted 1.5hrs to work as no jobs close to home. In June 2018 I was involved in horrific car accident and had related PTSD so struggled to return in new session. HT was very understanding however colleague asked if I was enjoying my extended holiday!

Last straw in a toxic department so decided to resign and find work closer to home.

Honestly thought that with my experience, extensive CPD etc that it wouldn’t be long before securing another post. I was so wrong! Was successful in getting put on supply in my LA and lucky before lock down to have secured a temp post part time but not teaching my subject. Have had several supply work in most of schools in my LA and very little respect from other teachers, not valued nor treated as someone with experience, opinions don’t matter etc etc. also told by 2 seperate HTs that I am now too expensive and that they can get at least 2 NQTs.

I walked away from relying on supply 3 yrs ago and set up my own business where I still teach. I have the occasional supply day in schools I now choose to be in because I know I am appreciated, however hoping to leave teaching by end of this session.
